Figure 1 Data from infant patients with congenital myasthenia, a condition in which the development of connective tissue is impaired. Despite extremely low BMI SDS, the patients have body fat levels higher than the average in healthy children. This paradox can be attributed to extremely low levels of lean mass.9 Though underweight, energy intake is not itself constraining their growth.
