(A) BBB scores of rats with SCI before and after rMSC transplantation at 7 days post SCI indicate that rMSC transplantation significantly improved hindlimb performance in both hind legs. Repeated-measures of ANOVA followed by Bonferroni’s post hoc tests showed that BBB scores in rMSC -grafted animals were significantly higher than those in injured-untreated animals (*p<0.05). Each point represents the highest locomotor score achieved each day. (B) Time course of the recovery in rMSC-treated rats in the narrow-beam test. The ability of the rats to walk on differently shaped wooden beams is scored from 0 to 6 (see Methods). Arrow (↓) indicates transplantation point. Error bars indicate SEM (n>5 per group).
