Effects of CIS3 and dnSTAT adenoviruses on histopathology in the AIA model. In vivo expression of transgenes by adenovirus vectors. (a) After AIA induction, 108 PFU of AxCALacZ were injected into the ankle joints. Then, 7 days later, the hind paw was removed and stained with X-gal. (b) Microscopic view of synovial cells stained with X-gal and hematoxylin (×400). (c) Representative histopathologies of the ankle joints stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H-E) and Safranin-O (×100). Adenovirus or PBS was injected into ankle joints on day 6, 1 day before the second immunization. Mice were inoculated with PBS or LacZ virus and CIS3 or dnSTAT3 virus into each ankle joint. Thirty-five days after the first immunization, mice were sacrificed and subjected to histopathological examination.
