In patients with active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the test for faecal S100A12 performs equally well regardless of disease location. The analysis of variance revealed no significant differences, although there was a trend towards higher levels of distal inflammation compared with more proximal inflammation. Faecal S100A12 seems to be a more robust test in this regard than faecal calprotectin (L, left; R, right; Others, proctitis and isolated sigma inflammation).
