CRE sequence-containing plasmids can compete for binding of proteins. Pictures of representative EMSAs using either HeLa (A) or Aplysia pedal ganglia (B) extracts are shown. The arrowhead indicates the migration of the specifically retarded band in A. Control plasmids lacking the CRE sequence (pBluescript) do not specifically compete for binding of proteins to the radioactively labeled CRE probe. In contrast, CRE sequence-containing plasmids (CRE-pBlue) effectively compete for binding at both ×50 and ×150 molar excess.
