Results are the mean ± SD of three to four independent experiments and are given as percent of the original population (2.5 × 10⁷ cells). Cells were developed on filters saturated with 10 mM potassium phosphate buffer, pH 6.4 (A); 10 mM potassium phosphate buffer containing 20 mM KCl and 5 mM MgCl₂ (B); 10 mM potassium phosphate buffer containing 20 mM KCl, 5 mM MgCl₂, and 100 mM sorbitol (C).
