Figure 1

Alignment of residues in the second membrane-spanning (M2) region of the α subunit of the nAChR (Torpedo), the α1 subunit of the GABAA receptor, the α1 subunit of the glycine receptor, and the rat ρ1 subunit of the GABAC receptor. The boxed residues in the α subunit of the nAChR and the α1 subunit of the GABAA receptor have been proposed to face the lumen of the channel (1820).
