Fig. 6 — Average distances of immunogold particles from membranes. The values are the mean ± SEM of the distances of gold particles (white bars) or random points (black bars) located within a distance equal to 40 nm from different membrane categories, in the vicinity of glutamatergic synapses in rat hippocampus. Note that for both A₁R (A) and P2Y₁R (B) the mean distance of gold particles is shorter than that of random points in all membranes, except in mitochondria outer membranes (which represent background labelling).
