Transverse section through the base of a bristle of a 44-h (nearly mature length) forked^36a mutant. The numbers indicate the number of filaments in their respective bundles. Inset, filaments in the bundle are packed hexagonally as one would expect as this mutant contains fascin but no forked proteins.
