Representative ESI mass spectra of triacylglycerols in lipid extracts from cervical DRG of control and diabetic mice. Mice were rendered diabetic for 4 weeks by streptozotocin treatment at 4 months of age. Mouse cervical DRG were dissected and DRG lipids were extracted by a modified Bligh and Dyer procedure. TAG molecular ions were analyzed using positive-ion ESI/MS, and were further identified using 2D mass spectrometry as described in Materials and methods. The mass spectrum acquired from lipid extracts of diabetic mice DRG (b) has been normalized for the ion peak intensity of the TAG internal standard (I.S., m/z 849.7) relative to that of the control (a).
