The mass levels of selected lipid classes in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG) lipidome of apolipoprotein E knockout and wild-type mice at different ages. DRG lipid extracts from apolipoprotein E knockout (closed symbols) and wild-type (open symbols) mice were prepared by a modified Bligh and Dyer procedure. The mass levels of lipid classes including sulfatide (panel a, circle), galactosylceramide or galactocerebroside (GalCer) (panel a, square), ceramide (panel b), triacylglycerol (panel c), and cholesterol (panel d) at the indicated ages were quantitated by shotgun lipidomics as described under Materials and methods. Each data point represents mean ± SD of six different animals and some error bars are within the symbols.
