(A) Gap1p is rapidly activated after glutamate-grown cells are transferred to urea medium. Wild-type cells (CKY443) were grown on either glutamate or glutamine and the kinetics of induction of permease activity was followed after transfer to urea. Permease activity was measured by the rate of [¹⁴C]citrulline uptake as described above. (B) Wild-type cells were treated as for A, but were shifted to urea medium containing 1.5 μg/ml cycloheximide.
