The accumulation of CD8+ and CD4+ cells in the lungs of wild-type and Cd8(−/−) mice were assessed by immunocytochemistry on frozen sections. Tissue CD8+ cells were quantitated as the number of positive cells per field (400x original magnification). Values presented are means (± sem) of 5 fields per section from 3 sections per mouse (n = 7–8 mice per group). * Denotes value significantly greater than sham-exposed control at p<0.05.
