Averages ± SD. Values shown were obtained from 10 micrographs of HeLa cells transiently transfected with aequorin, printed at 50,000 × (total analyzed section area = 146 μm2), chosen at random. They were not subtracted from the background (4.5 particles/μm2) assessed over parallel cryosections, but processed with a preimmune serum.
