FE65 enhances the ability of APP to increase the rate of wound healing. Confluent monolayers of MDCK cells overexpressing APP (+APP/−FE65; a, c, e, and g) or both APP and FE65 (+APP/+FE65, b, d, f, and h) were grown on grids then wounded with a pipette tip. The wounds were photographed immediately after wounding (a and b). The same points on the grids were again photographed 9 (c and d), 12 (not shown), 15 (e and f), 18 (not shown), and 21 h (g and h) after wounding. (i) The distance the wound edges had traveled was determined at the same three points on each of six wounds. The data represent means ± SE. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.001, and **P < 0.0001 by ANOVA. Similar results were seen with two additional FE65 overexpressing clones.
