The cells were incubated for 24 h, and those that did not migrate through the pores in the membrane were removed by scraping the membrane with a cotton swab. The remaining cells were stained, and the number transversing the membrane was determined by averaging ten random fields of view at 100 ×. The data are expressed as the number of cells/field of view and is the average of three independent experiments. Error bars indicate SD of the average.
