Effect of antisense treatment on NOS enzymatic activity in the PAG. Groups of mice received antisense F, which targets both nNOS isoforms, or a corresponding mismatch F (20 μg, i.c.v.). The following day the PAG was dissected and pooled to permit determination of nNOS enzymatic activity, measured by the formation of [3H]citrulline from [3H]arginine, as described by Dryer et al. (45). Results are the means ± SEM of three independent determinations. The antisense treatment significantly lowered the levels of [3H]citrulline by 32% (P < 0.05).
