Coronal sections from the lumbar spinal cord (L4–L5) of four 10-month-old transgenic (IL3-Tg) and four age-matched controls (CT) were either immunolabeled with ChAT antibodies or stained with the Nissl dye. The total number of sections used for the determination of MN number ± SD is indicated. Both Nissl and ChAT staining showed significant differences in MN counts between IL3-Tg and controls, using the Student’s t test (P < 0.05 for Nissl values; P < 0.001 for ChAT values).
