Determination of elastase activity and swarming motility. (A) Strains were grown for 7 h in Pseudomonas broth medium, and the elastase activity in the culture supernatants was determined by the ECR assay. The results are expressed as the OD₄₉₅/OD₆₀₀ of culture after 7 h growth. The results represent the means ± standard deviations of five independent experiments. (B) Swarming was assessed on M9-based medium, as described in Materials and Methods. The plates were incubated for 18 h at 37°C.
