Mice were inoculated i.p. (0.1 ml) with 1,000 to 5,000 CFU of F. tularensis LVS HimarFT hypothetical (FTL) mutants. The mutant challenge was determined by counting CFU on MHP agar.

Survival was determined 21 days after infection. Mice challenged with F. tularensis LVS and LVS FTL_0741::HimarFT died 3 to 8 days after infection.
