leuB mRNA abundance in E. coli CP78 (relA+, ppGpp+) and CP79 (relA−, ppGpp−). Cells were grown to log phase (log) in minimal medium or were grown to log phase and were washed and transferred to minimal medium without arginine (−arg), threonine (−thr), or leucine (−leu) for 15 min.
