Inflammation in transgenic mice. Transgene-negative, Tg (−), and dual transgene-positive, Tg (+), mice at 1 mo of age were randomized to normal water, dox (−), or dox water, dox (+), for 3 mo. The lungs were then removed, fixed to pressure, sectioned, stained (hematoxylin and eosin), and photographed (original magnification: ×100). These photomicrographs are representative of the results obtained in a minimum of 10 experiments evaluating the histology of transgene-positive and transgene-negative mice on normal water or dox water.
