The gravistimulus had to be presented for 2–4 h to initiate the bending response. Vertically grown plants were gravistimulated horizontally for the times indicated and then returned to a vertical orientation. After 48 h, the bending response was measured as the angle deviated from the vertical. Significant bending from the vertical occurred in plants that had been gravistimulated for 4 h or more. Positive angles indicate negative gravitropic bending. Data are from five plants for each treatment; where values overlap only a single line is drawn.
