Effect of aprotinin on IL-13-induced TGF-β₁ bioactivity. BAL fluids were obtained from transgene (+) mice treated from 1 mo of age to 2 mo of age with aprotinin (+ aprotinin) or vehicle control. The spontaneous (A) and acid-activatable (B) TGF-β₁ bioactivity in these fluids are compared to that in BAL fluids from WT transgene (−) littermate control animals. The noted values represent the mean ± SEM of a minimum of four mice in each group. P < 0.01.
