RNA expression was monitored by RT-PCR and quantified as described in the legend to Fig. 2 B. Values represent fold induction, which is the ratio of mRNA in injured nerve to that in contralateral (control) nerve. Values represent the mean ± SD of the results of three experiments; those indicated by an asterisk (*) are significantly different from values in contralateral nerve (P <0.05, Student's t test).
