Dose-response relationships for IL-8 inhibition of IFN-α antiviral activity. Confluent WISH cells were pretreated with indicated concentrations of IL-8; cells were then used for the IFN bioassay as described in Materials and Methods. Percent inhibition refers to percent reduction in original IFN-α potency (10⁷ IU/ml) in the absence of IL-8 treatment (IFN control, 0% inhibition). Average number of experiments (those with SEM) is four. *Statistical significance at P <0.005 when compared to no IL-8 treatment. Other points could not be statistically analyzed because n = 2 is small.
