Lon (2–5 μg) purified and kept in the absence (untreated) or in the presence of 1 mM ATP or 1 mM AMP-PNP was incubated at 30°C for the indicated times and then was analyzed by 10% SDS/PAGE and staining with Coomassie blue. Shown at left are molecular weight standards in kDa. (B) Stability of the Lon oligomer. Lon (5–8 μg) purified and kept in the absence (untreated) or the presence of 1 mM ATP or 1 mM AMP-PNP was incubated at 30°C for the indicated times, was crosslinked with 0.1% glutaraldehyde for 30 min on ice, and was analyzed by 3.3% SDS/PAGE and Coomassie blue staining (34).
