Opposing roles of PGE2 in the induction of CD83+/CCR7+/CD25+ DCs versus NK cells. Freshly isolated NK cells or TNF-α–activated monocyte-derived DCs were treated with IL-18, PGE2, or their combination. (A) PGE2 supports the induction of the chemokine receptor CCR7 on maturing DCs, but prevents the induction of CCR7 expression on IL-18–treated NK cells. Although IL-18 does not induce CCR7 expression on mature DCs, it does induce the expression of CCR7 and CD83 on NK cells. (B) PGE2 prevents the acquisition of the migratory responsiveness to CCL21 in IL-18–primed NK cells. Data from one of three experiments that produced similar results.
