B_max and K _diss (the latter calculated by nonlinear regression using a common B_max in each series) were obtained from the data in Fig. 1 to which the numbers of the experiments also refer. The ionic strength before addition of the Na⁺ salts (experiments A1, B1, B2, and C1) was calculated as described under materials and methods.
