Modified definition of branching rate based on path length. x-axis: path length (cm) from root along the main path towards the terminal. The main path is traced by bifurcating into the larger daughter when crossing a bifurcation. y-axis: r_n/r ₀. For each ξ^low a separate linear regression for r _n/r ₀ over path lengths has been performed according to least squares. Regression coefficients are given in Table II.
