Effect of illumination on the tryptic cleavage of the LHCII N-terminal domain and removal of the phosphorylation site. LHCII suspended in the phosphorylation buffer was incubated in the light or darkness for 20 min. The samples were transferred to darkness, trypsin was added, and proteolysis was stopped after 2 min followed by addition of the kinase and phosphorylation in darkness for 30 min.
