The opening frequency (per patch; mean ± SEM) was estimated as the inverse of mean duration of closed intervals (τc). The open probability (per patch) was calculated as the τo/(τo + τc), where τo is the mean duration of open intervals; n is the number of patches. The effect of the mutation on the opening frequency correlates with its effect on L2 (Fig. 7).
