Note that compliance curves of the 3 cm and the 36 cm distensions were superimposable, both during i.v. saline (▪ and •, respectively) and during i.v. glucagon (□ and ○, respectively). Glucagon relaxed the intestine and reduced the extension ratio similarly in both segments. The perception threshold for 36 cm distension during i.v. glucagon was not determined (see ‘Specific procedures and experimental design’).
