Figure 5. Internal Mg2+ affects the gating properties of NR1(N0Q)-NR2A channels.

Figure 5

All point histograms from two different outside-out patches in the absence (A) and presence (B) of 4 mM internal Mg2+. The holding potential was -60 mV (left panels) and + 60 mV (right panels). The length of the recordings used to construct these histograms varied between 3.6 and 7.5 s. The best fits were obtained using eqn (1) (see Methods) with the following parameters for peaks 1, 2 and 3 corresponding to the main, sub- and closed states, respectively. -60 mV, 0 Mg2+: x1= - 5.94, w1= 1.25, A1= 1.25, x2= -3.2, w2= 1.81, A2= 1.19, x3= -0.02, w3= 1.13, A3= 5.36; +60 mV, 0 Mg2+: x1= 5.24, w1= 1.23, A1= 1.52, x2= 3.18, w2= 1.71, A2= 0.92, x3= -0.04, w3= 1.14, A3= 5.36; -60 mV, 4 mM Mg2+: x1= -5.67, w1= 0.73, A1= 1.67, x2= -2.82, w2= 0.94, A2= 1.08, x3= -0.07, w3= 0.54, A3= 4.88; +60 mV, 4 mM Mg2+: x1= 1.83, w1= 0.64, A1= 2.84, x2= 0.96, w2= 0.44, A2= 0.45, x3= -0.08, w3= 0.48, A3= 4.39.
