Decoy-mediated increase in actinorhodin production in cultures grown in R5 liquid medium. S. coelicolor M145 was grown for 20 h before transfection (indicated by arrows) with a scrambled version of decoy A24.5 (A) or the A24.5 decoy (B). Cell growth (diamonds) and the amount of undecylprodigiosin produced (circles) were similar in the two cultures, and the only variation seen was in the accumulation of actinorhodin (triangles), which was stimulated after treatment with decoy A24.5.
