Administration of PMPA to two rhesus monkeys beginning on day 14 postinfection. An untreated monkey (5980) was inoculated intravenously with 1.6 × 104 of SHIVDH12R. The insets in each panel highlight percent CD4+ T-lymphocyte (upper panel) and the plasma viral RNA (lower panel) levels during the initial 20 weeks of infection. The stippled bar in each inset indicates the 4-week period of PMPA administration.
