Sudan IV-stained aortas from genetically modified mice that were fed a mouse chow diet for 6 mo. Representative aortas from LDLR−/− (A), LDLR−/−;Tg(apoa+/−) (B), LDLR−/−;Tg(apoB+/+) (C), and LDLR−/−;Tg(apoB+/+);Tg(apoa+/−) (D) groups of mice were pinned out and stained with Sudan IV, which stains neutral lipids red. The lesion area in each aorta shown was as follows: 1.03% (A), 2.63% (B), 21.76% (C), and 16.86% (D). The scale bar represents 10 mm.
