Tectal cell SP-like immunoreactivity is altered by blocking either all cholinergic receptor activity or nicotinic or muscarinic receptor activity alone. The percentage of SP-IR cells in layer 6 of the drug-treated tectum is lower and significantly different from that in the untreated tectum. Elvax without any drug (vehicle) produces no change in the percentage of SP-IR cells.
