Purity of APC populations. Total spleen cells were first sorted in a CD11c+ (the DC) and a CD11c fraction (see Materials and methods). The CD11c cells were further divided into a CD11b+-fraction (macrophages) and a GAM+-fraction (B cells). The purified cell populations contained 92·2 ± 3·0% CD11c+ cells (DC), 98·9 ± 0·3% CD11c GAM+ cells (B cells), and 85·3 ± 2·6% CD11c CD11b+ cells (macrophages).
