The effect of monensin (10 μM) and subsequent removal of external Na⁺ (replaced by Li⁺) on [Ca²⁺]_i (means ±s.e.m.) in Ca²⁺-containing (trace a;n = 22) or nominally Ca²⁺-free medium (trace b;n = 15). The traces were obtained from two different cell cultures from the same preparation batch.
