Preloading MBCD with cholesterol removes its effect on membrane hydrolysis. Erythrocytes were incubated with MBSS (as a control), MBCD, or preloaded MBCD according to Materials and Methods. The initial hydrolysis rate upon addition of sPLA₂ was assessed as in Fig. 2. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (repeated measures) with a posttest (Bonferroni). The MBCD-treated samples were distinguishable from both the control and preloaded MBCD-treated groups (p < 0.01).
