Time course of HDL oxidation by Cu2+. HDL solution (0.1 mg/mL protein in buffer B (10 mM Na phosphate, pH 7.5)) was incubated at 37 °C with 5 μM CuSO4 for up to 240 min; oxidation was monitored by absorbance at 234 nm for conjugated diene formation. Numbers refer to oxidation stages corresponding to different incubation times; HDL oxidation at these stages was stopped by adding EDTA (1:50 Cu2+:EDTA molar ratio, see Materials and Methods).
