Table 1.

Effect of urea on distribution of Aβ between aggregates and nonaggregated populations

Urea concentration
0.4 M (n = 6) 2 M (n = 7) 4 M (n = 6) 6 M (n = 9)
% Nonaggregates (M + D)a 63 ± 8 63 ± 6 80 ± 8 78 ± 8
% Aggregatesa 37 ± 8 37 ± 6 20 ± 8 22 ± 8

a Identical samples were injected using the same sample loop and detector with and without the column in place. To calculate the mass fraction of Aβ in monomer and dimer populations, the individual peak areas (obtained with the column in place) were divided by the peak area without the column. The mass fraction of Aβ as aggregates (>70 kDa) was calculated by difference.
