Gc CFU exhibiting a Pā colony morphology were collected from lysates of infected T84 cells at the indicated times. The percentage and number of CFU exhibiting changes in pilE sequence (Pilin Av), phase variation of PilC (PilCoff), and deletion of the pilE locus (pilE deletion) were determined.
