Each group of bars represents the maximal elevation in the intracellular level of cGMP (dark bars) and cAMP (light bars) after application of 25 μM forskolin. Elevation of intracellular calcium by 1 μM thapsigargin, moderately enhanced cGMP production. The effect of 10 μM ACh is shown for comparison. The changes in the levels of each nucleotide are shown as a normalized increase relative to the levels of the same nucleotide obtained before application of the agents. Each bar represents an average over three to seven experiments with error bars representing the SEM.
