Polymerized Cp*150 forms disulfide bonded dimers. (a) SDS/PAGE of Cp*150 from isolated capsids. Samples of Cp*150 were subjected to electrophoresis under reducing (lanes 1–3) and nonreducing conditions (lanes 5–7). Samples of Cp*150 polymerized at pH 9.5 (lanes 1 and 7) and at pH 7.5 (lanes 2 and 6). Lanes 3 and 5 are Cp*149, which has no cysteines. Molecular mass standards (200, 116, 97, 66, 45, 31, 21.5, 14.4, and 6.5 kDa) are in lane 4. (b) Size exclusion chromatography of capsid protein after exposure to 3.5 M urea.
