The electrostatic free energy of interaction (in kcal/mole) with a 2 : 1 PC/PS membrane in 0.1 M KCl as a function of the distance between the van der Waals surfaces of the PH domain and membrane. The free energies were calculated by using the finite difference Poisson-Boltzmann (FDPB) method as described in Materials and Methods (Gallagher and Sharp 1998).
