Comparison of α and β receptor antagonist effects on the adrenaline mediated suppression of nitric oxide. Murine peritoneal macrophages (10⁵) were cultured with either medium alone, LPS alone (10 µg/ml), LPS plus adrenaline (at 10⁻⁵ m), or LPS plus adrenaline together with either phentolamine, propranolol, or atenolol. After 48 hr culture supernatants were harvested and nitrite levels determined by the Griess reaction. Results are expressed as mean ±SEM and are representative of two similar experiments.
