Mean additional lateral velocity for each attribute as a function of the time after the perturbation. The mean additional lateral velocity is the mean difference between the lateral velocity on the trials in which the target did and did not change position. To estimate the latency of the response, a line through the points at 25 and 75% of the peak velocity (see dotted lines) was extrapolated to intersect the line representing an additional velocity of 0 (black horizontal line). The time at the point of intersection was considered to be the response latency. a Averages of six participants for the luminance contrast conditions. b Averages of 12 participants for the conditions in which they all participated
