Relative A₁AR gene transcription and myocardial A₁AR density were assessed in young and aged wild-type hearts. A, A₁AR gene transcription determined via quantitative real-time PCR, and presented as the ΔC_t value relative to 18S rRNA transcription (lower ΔC_t value reflects higher transcript levels – see Methods). B, [³H]DPCPX binding to myocardial A₁ARs. Density of A₁ARs (B_max) is also provided in B for all four groups. All values represent means ± s.e.m. * P < 0.05vs. young. No differences were detected between B_max values in young vs. aged hearts in B.
